About

To ensure the future relevance of our research at Eriksholm, we continuously adjust our scientific focus areas in accordance with megatrends seen across academia and the hearing healthcare industry. Our vision, however, remains unchanged: The overall purpose of everything we do is to make scientific discoveries with the potential to improve the quality of life for people with hearing impairments.

The field of artificial intelligence is moving at an astonishing rate, leading to groundbreaking and transformative innovations across many industries. We are seeing a drastic reduction in the time it takes for new scientific insight to find its way into technological implementation. This is why we have decided to include AI as a scientific focus area at Eriksholm. As Fellow and internationally recognized signal processing and machine learning expert, Jesper Jensen, puts it:

“We want to explore how AI can be harnessed and utilized to help people with hearing impairments benefit from our scientific discoveries at a faster pace than ever”.

For over 45 years, the Eriksholm Research Centre has made significant advances in the understanding and treatment of hearing difficulties. We are particularly known for our work in applied cognitive hearing science and we have pioneered approaches to show how a hearing-impaired person’s brain needs to work harder to process speech and sound information. We excel in behavioral research, which deepens our ability to understand and decode a listener’s intention in different and challenging communication scenarios. And we are also breaking new ground within personalized audiology, using novel digital methods to learn about users’ preferences outside of a laboratory setting, and to develop new diagnostic tests.

With this new focus area, we aim to build a world-class research program in applied AI and data science for hearing healthcare. The aim is to take advantage of the deep insight we have in cognitive hearing science, intent decoding and personalized audiology to provide innovation that can help revolutionize the hearing healthcare industry. Jesper Jensen says:

“Our goal is to spearhead research initiatives aimed at creating hearing aid systems that can provide precisely tailored sound experiences for individuals who are using hearing devices”.

Simultaneously, the Eriksholm Research Center will be developing tools to streamline the hearing rehabilitation process, improving efficiency and effectiveness through computational audiology. With these endeavors, we seek to empower both hearing care professionals and users with the latest scientific advancements.

With the establishment of the new focus area, we are now opening industrial PhD and Postdoc positions in machine learning for hearing aid systems. Read more and apply here.
