New focus area : Artificial Intelligence
The field of artificial intelligence is moving at an astonishing rate, leading to groundbreaking and transformative innovations across many industries. We are seeing a drastic reduction in the time it takes for new scientific insight to find its way into technological implementation. This is why we have decided to include AI as a scientific focus area at Eriksholm.
Brand refresh
Time flies and to stay contemporary in the way we brand ourselves and our scientific work, we had Eriksholm undergo a brand refresh. The transformation is subtle, yet the overall impression is refreshing, just as it contains endless possibilities to wrap our science in catchy, creative contexts.
New Senior Director
James M. Harte joined Eriksholm as new Senior Director after having headed the Interacoustics Research Unit, IRU, for five years. Read more about James M. Harte right here.
Fifth Eriksholm Workshop
Experts discussed the Framework for Understanding Effortful Listening (FUEL). The outcome of the workshop was a consensus paper published in the July/August 2016 issue of Ear and Hearing. Follow the link to read the paper.
Internet and Audiology
The Second International Meeting on Internet and Audiology was held at Eriksholm Research Centre on September 24-25, 2015, this year with the participation of 70 experts and specialists from all over the world.
New Senior Director
Uwe Hermann joined Eriksholm as new Senior Director.
Fourth Eriksholm Workshop
Experts discussed Wideband Absorbance Measures of the Middle Ear. The outcome of this workshop, which was the first to be held outside of Eriksholm Research Centre, was a consensus paper published in the July 2013 issue of Ear and Hearing. Follow the link to read the paper.
Eriksholm is born as a unique brand
To clarify and strengthen Eriksholm Research Centre’s unique position between academia and the hearing health care industry, Eriksholm was branded independently from Oticon.
Oticon Agil
The advanced speech processing and amplification technology Speech Guard which was introduced with Oticon Agil was the result of years of research at Eriksholm.
Behavioural science
The first international Eriksholm project on Behavioral Science was launched with Professor Sophia Kramer, Amsterdam UMC, as project leader. The project was funded by the William Demant Foundation.
New Research Director
Graham Naylor was appointed Research Director at Eriksholm, a position he held until 2013.
25 years anniversary
Eriksholm celebrated its 25th anniversary by gathering an array of experts within the field of e.g., audiology, acoustics, and medicine. One speaker was Professor Lisbeth Tranebjærg who presented her project on Genetics of Hearing Impairment which was funded by the William Demant Foundation.
Third Eriksholm Workshop
Experts discussed the management of auditory and non-auditory factors in hearing solutions for elderly people.
Eriksholm rebuild
The biggest rebuild of Eriksholm is finalized and comprises a new entrance, conference room, museum and an auditorium seating 90 people.
Second Eriksholm Workshop
Experts discussed self-reported outcome measures in audiological rehabilitation. An important outcome of the workshop was the questionnaire International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids, IOI-HA, that has since been used throughout the world.
First Eriksholm Summer Camp
The purpose of the Summer Camps is to bring young audiologists from all over the world together to learn about applied research in audiology, to share knowledge, and to create a life lasting international network. Today, Eriksholm Summer Camps are arranged every year in August, and they are sponsored by The William Demant Foundation.
20 years anniversary
Eriksholm celebrated its 20th anniversary, hosting Professor Stuart Gatehouse as guest speaker, presenting his latest research results.
First Eriksholm Workshop
At this very first Eriksholm Workshop, sponsored by the William Demant Foundation, a group of 15 experts was invited by to discuss the aspects of auditory deprivation and acclimatization in adult hearing aid users. The convenor this year was Professor Stuart Gatehouse.
The general purpose of this and future Eriksholm Workshops was, and still is “to gather small groups of experts in audiology and hearing science to have focused discussions and exchange of information about an important area of study for the purpose of describing the topic, suggesting areas for further study, and, if appropriate, developing a consensus statement”.
New Research Director
Claus Elberling was appointed new Research Director at Eriksholm.
Oticon Earette
Oticon launched the hearing aid Oticon Earette, E43, a hearing aid specially designed for people with high frequency hearing loss. The audiological concept was developed at Eriksholm and prototypes of the hearing aid were tested by help of employees at the bottling hall at Carlsberg brewery.
POGO
The new fitting rationale, Prescription of Gain and Output, which was described in 1983 by Eriksholm’s Research Director, Poul Erik Lyregaard, and Geary A. McCandless, was validy tested at Eriksholm in 1986.
The grand opening of Eriksholm Research Centre
On September 16th, Oticon’s Managing Director Bent Simonsen welcomed the many invited guests for the opening of the totally refurbished Research and Information Centre, Eriksholm. At the same occasion, Research Director Poul Erik Lyregaard hosted the opening of Eriksholm’s anechoic room.
Oticon acquires the property ‘Eriksholm’
The purpose was to establish a research department, geographically separated from headquarters, to facilitate a combination of fundamental and applied research, independent from the product based research that takes place at headquarters’ research and development department.
Staff at the time was five engineers and one secretary, headed by Research Director Poul Erik Lyregaard.
