About
At Eriksholm, we are committed to fostering a sustainable and environmentally friendly workplace. Our efforts span various initiatives, each contributing to a greener and more balanced ecosystem. We recently finalized preparing a dedicated area for a solar panel set-up. While we wait for the local authorities to approve our application, here is a glimpse into some of the other steps we’ve taken so far, to make Eriksholm become more sustainable.
Composting Garden Waste
We have dedicated a corner of our premises for garden waste, ranging from cut-off branches to felled trees. By allowing this waste to compost naturally, we’ve created a haven for a variety of insects that wouldn’t typically thrive in large numbers here. A diverse insect population is essential for our ecosystem, aiding in pollination, soil health, and natural pest control. This initiative not only reduces waste but also enhances the biodiversity of our surroundings.
Claus Nielsen, our Senior Research Facility Manager, says, “The composting initiative has transformed a simple garden waste corner into a vibrant ecosystem. It’s amazing to see how something as simple as composting can have such a profound impact on biodiversity.”

Wildflower Beds
Every year, we allocate suitable outdoor areas for wildflower beds. These vibrant displays not only offer a stunning view but also attract a myriad of insects. The presence of diverse insect species brings numerous benefits, including improved pollination, healthier soil, and natural pest management. Also, the presence of these wildflower beds signals dedication to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Eriksholm to both employees, test subjects, and the many other visitors that come here.
“Our wildflower beds are more than just a beautiful addition to our landscape,” says Claus Nielsen. “They are a crucial part of our sustainability efforts, supporting a healthy and diverse insect population that benefits the entire ecosystem.”

Sustainable Water Management
Our small pond, once struggling to retain water, now thrives thanks to a recently added drain system. This system captures rainwater from the buildings and directs it into the lake, ensuring it remains filled year-round. A small lake is crucial for biodiversity, providing a habitat for aquatic plants and animals, supporting bird life, and helping maintain a balanced ecosystem. This sustainable water management practice underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship.
“Water is a precious resource, and managing it sustainably is a key priority for us,” explains Claus Nielsen. “The pond now serves as a thriving habitat and a visual reminder of our commitment to sustainability.”
The pond is home to a variety of aquatic animals. Since the installation of a new drain system, the pond no longer struggles to retain water.
Outdoor Meeting Facility
We’ve established the Outer Ear, a fully equipped outdoor meeting room located in the heart of our park, right next to the pond. With electrical power and Wi-Fi, this serene space is frequently used for meetings and quiet work sessions. The Outer Ear can be booked like any other meeting room on our premises. This outdoor facility not only boosts creativity and productivity but also allows us to connect with nature, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.
Claus Nielsen highlights, “The Outer Ear is a unique addition to our facilities. It offers a peaceful setting for work and meetings, it’s a perfect blend of technology and nature.”
At Eriksholm, our sustainability initiatives are driven by a deep respect for nature and a commitment to creating a harmonious workplace. From composting garden waste and establishing wildflower beds to managing our water resources and providing outdoor workspaces, we strive to lead by example. By integrating these sustainable practices into our daily operations, we hope to inspire others to join us in our journey towards a greener future.
Together, we can make a difference—one sustainable step at a time.
