What is your primary work area within Eriksholm Research Centre?

I am studying how speech is processed in the brain, how this is affected by hearing loss, and how it may be rehabilitated when using hearing aids.

What originally triggered you interest in the hearing care field?

The wisdom and vitality of older people impress me, and I began to investigate how the brain changes with age. When doing so, I realized that many fit older adults experience hearing challenges. I wanted to gain a better understanding what impact hearing difficulties have on people’s lives, and how we can alleviate them. I am also fascinated by different languages, what they reflect from our cultures, and how meaning is decoded from sound. Thus, studying how we can ease speech understanding in older adults is really combining two passions of mine.

The vision of improving people’s quality of life in the long-term, solving the puzzle of how the brain processes speech, and how hearing loss is intertwined with cognition. On a daily basis, I am motivated by making sense of data, revealing patterns, and finding new angles to address problems.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not working at Eriksholm?

I spend most of my leisure time with our two little ones as they discover more and more of the world around them. Otherwise, I love honest conversations with close ones, good food, hiking, and skiing.

What is the most exciting scientific breakthrough or invention in your time?

High-performance computing. It enables us to reveal patterns, gain insights, and inform solutions we could otherwise never dream of.
