Heidi Bliddal Borges

Scientist

I hope science continues to move in a direction where collaboration across disciplines becomes the norm. Some of the most exciting breakthroughs happen when different fields intersect like neuroscience and AI. I also hope we become even better at translating research into real-world solutions that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

What is your primary work area within Eriksholm Research Centre?

I work in Eriksholm’s AI focus area, where I’m currently involved in a project using AI to support clinicians in diagnosing auditory brainstem responses.

What originally triggered you interest in the hearing care field?

My interest sparked during my master’s project, where I measured beat perception using ear-EEG. It was my first deep dive into the connection between hearing and the brain, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

What brought you to Eriksholm?

After finishing my master’s in biomedical engineering, I was eager to continue working in this field. A unique opportunity came up to do a PhD in collaboration between the Center for Ear-EEG and Eriksholm Research Centre, and I jumped at the chance.

What motivates you in your job?

I have two main drivers: First, I love diving into the nitty-gritty details of a topic, it suits my personality perfectly. Second, knowing that my work can contribute to something bigger, like improving the lives of people with hearing impairment, gives me a strong drive.

What do you hope to achieve in the long run?

I hope to leave a fingerprint on a product one day. For me, the most meaningful outcome is when scientific exploration leads to practical solutions that improve lives.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not working at Eriksholm?

I like to be creative and spend time with my loved ones in my spare time, whether it’s painting, knitting, or enjoying a good board game with friends and family.

What is the most exciting scientific breakthrough or invention in your time?

Artificial intelligence! It’s an incredibly exciting time to be in science, especially now that we have the computing power to really push the boundaries of what’s possible.
